Jeopardy! viewers lashed out at the show after one category appeared to divert away from a fundamental aspect of the show.

Contestants taking part in Jeopardy! on Wednesday, December 10, included Eddie Kass, a double bassist from Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts; Chelsea Carter, a creative director from Pasadena, California; and Will Riley, an engineer originally from Houston, Texas.

Will started the day as a two-day champ with winnings of $16,801. By the end of the episode, he narrowly triumphed with the Final Jeopardy! leaving the scores at Will with $8,801, Chelsea just behind at $8,799, and Eddie with $2,800.

Viewers, however, were more focused on one category that featured in Double Jeopardy! as they slammed the topic “Make your own Wes Anderson movie title.” Taking to social media to discuss the controversial addition, one wrote, “These contestants deserved better than that Wes Anderson category.”

A second said, “One of the worst categories I’ve seen in a long time, just way too far up its own ass.” A third shared, “In my mind I was trying to answer the clues and run through a list of Wes Anderson films, overthinking the connection of the category. I think they could have done the same clue structure but with real film titles while still being appropriately difficult.”

A fourth social media user commented, “Absolutely awful. The writers really need a better sounding board for some of their ideas.” A fifth posted, “These VIEWERS deserved better than that Wes Anderson category.”

Another fan questioned why the topic was included at all, as they pointed out, “I thought jeopardy was about knowing facts.” It comes after a former Jeopardy! champion was arrested and charged with two counts of felony secret peeping in North Carolina.

Philip Joseph “Joey” DeSena previously won two episodes of the hit show last November and took home $44,698. He also competed in the Champions Wildcard Tournament.

The 42-year-old was arrested on December 1, according to court documents obtained by the Mirror US from the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office in Maple, North Carolina.

DeSena, who was previously interviewed by the Mirror US about his time on Jeopardy!, was accused of “unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously” installing “any device that can be used to create photographic image, namely camera placed in the bathroom, with the intent to capture the image of another without their consent” in an unnamed room, according to the warrant.

Though he was arrested this month, the court documents allege his crime took place on October 10. DeSena posted a $5,000 bond two days after his arrest. A court-ordered DNA collection was also conducted on DeSena on the day of his arrest at 6:53 in the morning.

A first-time conviction of felony secret peeping is considered a class I felony, which can carry a sentence of 3 to 12 months of jail time in North Carolina.
