Jeopardy! viewers were along for a wild ride during the latest episode, with some fans comparing the trivia game show to being as cut-throat as professional football.

During the Monday, December 22 episode of Jeopardy! three intelligent contestants took the stage to test our their expansive trivia knowledge. The latest episode’s participants included Jasmine Zhou, an ASIC engineer from Woodland, California, Guy Branum, a writer and comedian from West Hollywood, California, and Rachael Gray, a graduate student from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

The latest episode featured a number of challenging categories including everything from ‘Nepo Babies’ to ‘Toxic Creatures.’ The game was a rollercoaster ride of emotions for every contestant, but especially Jasmine – who bet and lost it all not once, but twice throughout the episode.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one viewer posted, “Today’s episode of #Jeopardy was as wild as some of the NFL games I watched this weekend.” Another viewer noted, “Very tight contest as we head into Double Jeopardy.”

At the end of the first round, Rachael ended with $4,600, Guy with $6,200, and Jasmine with $6,000. And while all their scores bounced around throughout the game, many were particularly shocked at Jasmine losing after she risked too much money on each Daily Double.

On a newly posted Reddit thread, one viewer wrote, “Ouchies to Jasmine’s DD Luck. I haven’t done the math yet, but I wonder if Jasmine could’ve had the lead going into FJ if she went small on the wagers.”

Another viewer added, “What an amazing game all around. Jasmine just was a demon with the buzzer and got caught with two dastardly daily doubles. I too went with Luxembourg and it just gutted me. Congrats to Guy for such a well played game and Rachel was absolutely a problem out there for them. Just super smart, gutsy play and exhibit A of why I love tournaments.”

A third fan agreed, “Jasmine did very well, but wagered too high on the Daily Doubles. I did get a triple stumper (You See Tents for $2,000, What is Spokane?), but that’s home-field advantage.”

While someone else shared, “Jasmine blew her balance twice but I have a story about the ubiquitous DD. When I was 10 and lost a spelling bee, a boy secured his win on ubiquitous and I started crying but having stumped Jasmine on the DD, I’ve come to peace with it now.”

On the flip side, another fan praised Jasmine for taking the bold risk. They wrote, “Considering how close the game had been, Jasmine absolutely made the right move at the time by going big on both DDs, but in hindsight it does sting that she had a higher coryat than Guy and Rachael combined and would’ve been very close to having a runaway if she’d bet $5 both times, assuming the game played out the same way (which is a big assumption of course; maybe those runs where she was absolutely locked in on the buzzer toward the end came from a rush of adrenaline from desperately trying to recover that wouldn’t have been there if she hadn’t lost everything).”

At the end of the game, Guy emerged victorious with a final score of $9,400. Rachael came in second with a total of $8,600, and Jasmine finished in last with a score of $4,800.
