Jeopardy! fans took a jab at President Donald Trump when contestants were asked who the “worst president” is.

On Monday, December 15, the hit game show continued its’ Second Chance tournament with returning contestants Eugene Huang, Erin Li and Erik Nielsen. In the middle of the segment, viewers shifted their focus momentarily off the players and over to one of the interesting clues of Double Jeopardy.

Their murmurs began shortly after Nielsen had asked host Ken Jennings to reveal the $400 slot of a category titled, “I’m Thinking of a James…,” which gives clues related to public figures named James.

Jennings announced, “According to the U.S. News & World Report, this person is considered the “worst president” in U.S. history.”

Without a second of hesitation, Nielsen responded, “Who is James Buchanan?”

The 15th president has earned the title as the “worst president” due to his pro-Southern bias and repeated failures of leadership, which left his successor, Abraham Lincoln, with a divided country.

As Jennings deemed him correct and allotted him the cash prize, viewers rushed to X as they raised their suspicions on the accuracy of this clue.

Jeopardy! fans believe Donald Trump should be ranked as the “worst president”

One said, “I think we’ve got a new contender for that title,” hinting at the prospect of the country’s current president taking the #1 spot.

“I wonder if that USN&WR ranking might be updated — granted, leaving the country on the verge of civil war is pretty bad,” another added.

“It’s a shoe in!” a third chimed in, while a fourth wrote, “Stumbling in it with all the lack of class and intelligence only he can muster.”

Over the course of his two presidential terms, Trump has upset a good amount of the American population with his policies that involve issues like immigration, tariffs and health care initiatives. Even Jeopardy!’s Jennings has voiced objections to the current administration.

Earlier this year, the host wrote a guest column for The New York Times, where he shared his belief that politicians should follow facts like Jeopardy! contestants do.

“Trivia, of all things, is a ray of hope in our moment of national crisis,” he started. “Somehow, it’s still an arena where ideological projects are completely ignored and the thing that matters — the only thing that matters — is the right answer.”

“In a dark time, my secret optimism is that our viewers’ love for quiz games is a sign of what can eventually save us: a practical belief in fact and error that is more fundamentally American than the toxic blend of proud ignorance and smarter-than-thou skepticism that’s brought us to this point,” he added. “Trivia and Jeopardy! could save our republic.”

Jennings became Jeopardy’s sole host in December 2023 years after winning 74 consecutive games on the show.
