Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings opened up about enjoying the music of an up-and-coming indie rock artist, who just signed a recording contract with Atlantic Records in September
Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings has made an unexpected admission about a singer, who he claims has caused “disharmony” within his family.
The 51-year-old, who took over as sole host of the hit NBC game show in 2023, and his wife Mindy Jennings share two children together: son Dylan, born in 2002, and daughter Caitlin, born in 2006. While Jennings keeps his family life mostly private, he recently shared a hilarious anecdote involving his and his daughter’s similar music tastes.
In a clip shared to Jeopardy!’s Instagram on November 10, Jennings, who recently shared his makeover, revealed that he fell in love with the music of up-and-coming indie rock artist Clairo, who just signed a recording contract with Atlantic Records in September. When Caitlin, who is also a fan of the singer-songwriter, discovered this, she wasn’t exactly happy.
In the video, Jennings said, “I really enjoy the singer-songwriter named Clairo. Her album two years ago, Charm, is kind of like a 70s AM soft rock kind of throwback with some soul touches. She’s an amazing songwriter.
“A friend put it on a playlist. But when I put it on in the car, I was appalled to learn that my teenager and my teenager’s friends already loved Clairo, but that was nothing compared to how angry they were that I was listening to the artist they like.”
Jennings concluded his story, “So Clairo’s caused a lot of disharmony in our car. Even though I love her music so much.” Jeopardy! captioned the post with, “Ken Jennings, proud @clairo stan.”
Clairo, born Claire Elizabeth Cottrill, has been making music since she was 13 years old, but only rose to fame following the viral success of the music video for her lo-fi single Pretty Girl in 2017. Her 2019 debut studio album Immunity brought singles Bags and Sofia, the latter of which became her first single to chart on the Billboard Hot 100.
Fans of both Jennings and Clairo took to Jeopardy!’s post to express their delight with his funny story. One person wrote, “All I can picture is Ken driving a Subaru crosstrek bopping along to Bags.” Jeopardy! replied, “Pretty close to accurate.”
Another added, “Immaculate taste big K,” as a third asked, “does Ken have a favorite song off Charm?” Yet another joked, “Ken knows ball,” while someone else simply chimed in with, “incredible.”
Jennings has recently celebrated a milestone with his wife, Mindy Jennings. They celebrated 25 years together in September, and the game show host took to his Instagram to share a touching message wishing his wife a happy wedding anniversary.
Alongside the caption was a rare selfie of the couple in front of the Sydney Opera House in Australia. “I’m not sure where the years went or how I got this lucky, but this marriage is officially 25 years old,” Jennings wrote. “It can now rent a car!”
He added, “(This week is also the 25th anniversary of the Sydney Olympics, but that’s not why we’re here. That would be a weird system for planning an anniversary trip.)”
The couple met while attending Brigham Young University. According to People, it took Jennings nine months after revealing his intentions to ask Mindy out to her roommate for him to actually pluck up the courage to do so. They got engaged while at BYU and married shortly after graduating together in 2000.
