After years of a dispute over whether or not a certain Bruce Willis movie is a Christmas film, Jeopardy has officially weighed in on the issue with a definitive statement
Holiday movie fans often find themselves in the same debates every single year, but Jeopardy! may have put a permanent end to one.
The game show has been spicing up some of the categories on episodes, with a few devoted to holiday-themed questions and answers. This occurred on the Wednesday, December 10, Jeopardy! episode, when reigning two-day champ Will Riley faced off against new challengers Eddie Kass and Chelsea Carter.
As the game kicked off, one day after an episode where Riley’s challenger spilled behind-the-scenes secrets after it aired, one of the categories was called “That’s A Christmas Movie.”

Clues included references to several films that are considered holiday classics, such as Jingle All The Way, Elf, and Love Actually.
However, it was the one specific reference to a cult classic film — which has long been the subject of debate over whether or not it was, in fact, a Christmas movie — that got fans talking.
“All due respect to Mr. Willis, but ‘now I have a machine gun ho-ho-ho?’ and taking place during a holiday party? It’s a Christmas Movie!” Jennings read out.

Kass was the one to then buzz in first, correctly asking “What is Die Hard?”
Some fans quickly took to social media after the moment occurred, sharing their joy that the show seemingly settled the debate once and for all.
“Jeopardy just classified Die Hard as a Christmas movie,” one person wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Case closed.”
“Just wanted to point out that Jeopardy thinks Die Hard is a Christmas movie as well,” another said.
The comments arose from the ongoing debate over whether Die Hard, starring Bruce Willis, is a Christmas movie.
The 1988 action/thriller film’s synopsis reads that “New York City policeman John McClane (Willis) is visiting his estranged wife (Bonnie Bedelia) and two daughters on Christmas Eve. He johns her at a holiday party in the headquarters of the Japanese-owned business she works for.”
“But the festivities are interrupted by a group of terrorists who take over the exclusive high-rise, and everyone in it,” it continues. “Very soon McClane realizes that there’s no one to save the hostages–but him.”
For years, the debate has taken many by storm, with various different opinions on the matter, with Willis himself even claiming during a Comedy Central roast in 2018 that it wasn’t a Christmas movie, and polls also suggesting that others agreed.
Still, even if Jeopardy gets the final say and the movie is officially declared to be a Christmas movie once and for all, the debate will likely still continue.
