Real Madrid CF v Manchester City: Quarter-final First Leg - UEFA Champions League 2023/24

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric wants to win a lot of titles this season after extending his contract till 2025. The 38-year-old’s earlier contract had expired last month while he was with international duty with Croatia at Euro 2024.

Modric is a bonafide Los Blancos agent since arriving at the club from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2012. Since then, he has contributed 34 goals and 89 assists in 534 games across competitions.

Having realised a dream when he first arrived at Los Blancos, Modric extended his stay at the Bernabeu for another year on Wednesday (July 17). Following that, the Croatian says that he looks forward to winning a lot of titles in the upcoming season (as per Madrid Xtra):

“I hope we will win many titles this year. It will be special for me.”

He added (as per the aforementioned source):

“Real Madrid is everything for me. It’s my home. I’m going to give it all for this shirt like all these years. I hope to have many joys this season, and we will win many titles.”

Modric helped Los Blancos to three titles last season, including their second La Liga-UEFA Champions League double in three years.

Luka Modric created history with Real Madrid last season despite a dimished role in the first team. He won his sixth UEFA Champions League, joining three of his teammates – Toni Kroos, Dani Carvajal and Nacho Fernandez – in the exclusive group.

The 38-year-old won his first title in the competition – with Los Blancos – in 2014 before winning an unprecedented three-peat in 2016-18. Another followed in 2022 before a sixth materialised last season.

Modric is proud to be a part of an exclusive group, describing the feeling as ‘incredible’ (as per Madrid Xtra):

“Six Champions League? It is something incredible to tie with Paco Gento. Winning a Champions League is something incredible. I still always remember La Decima, which was something special.

“Then, winning it once, you want it again and again, because you see what it means for the club and for the fans. Therefore, when we play this competition there is something special in the players and in the club that has made us win so many Champions Leagues in these years.”

In 120 games in the competition with Los Blancos, Modric has contributed eight goals and 16 assists.
