Law & Order: SVU is rounding out the cast going into Season 26. The long-running Dick Wolf procedural has had a more stable cast than Law & Order, led by Mariska Hargitay’s Captain Olivia Benson, but even Olivia Benson needs help from time to time. So, who are the new Law & Order: SVU Season 26 cast members who will try to help her get justice?
Who Are the Law & Order: SVU Season 26 New Cast Members?
The show is adding two new detectives to the cast for Season 26. Well, they’re adding one new detective and bringing back a familiar one from seasons past. Kevin Kane has been upped to a series regular as Det. Terry Bruno. Kane first appeared on the show in another role in Season 9 and then played different roles on the show in Seasons 13, 17, and 20 before being cast as Det. Bruno.
As Detective Terry Bruno, Kane first appeared on the show in Season 24. He was also seen in Season 25. Now, in Season 26, he is set to stick around for good. Or so we hope.
Kane will not be the only new detective joining the Special Victims Unit, as Juliana Aidén Martinez, better known for her breakthrough role in Griselda, will also be joining the cast for Season 26. No details on her character have yet been revealed.
Law & Order: SVU is led by Mariska Hargitay as Captain Olivia Benson, but also stars Ice T, Peter Scanavino, and Octavio Pisano, among others. The show follows the detectives from the Special Victims Unit as they investigate sexually based crimes, but doesn’t stop at just the investigation, instead following up the case up to the prosecution stage.
Though the show doesn’t always take inspiration from real-life events, some episodes are loosely based on recognizable real crimes.
In previous seasons the show often crossed over with the other Law & Order spinoff, Law & Order: Organized Crime, which follows Detective Elliot Stabler, former member of the Special Victims Unit and ex-partner of Capt. Olivia Benson. However, with Law & Order: Organized Crime moving to Peacock for the upcoming season, it’s unknown if the shows will still be able to intersect, despite the close personal connection between Benson and Stabler.
Perhaps that is why the show is simply bringing in new people to interact with Benson. Whether fans are as interested in these new dynamics as they have always been in the already-established one between Benson and Stabler remains to be seen.
