Vin Diesel Shares Chilling Fast & Furious 11 Concept Art
Fast X: Part 2 prepares a hot finale to the acclaimed Fast & Furious film series nearly 25 years after its inception. However, franchise star Vin Diesel provides a chilling update to the upcoming sequel with new concept art potentially teasing what to expect.
Per his Instagram page, Diesel shared a first-look concept image for Fast X: Part 2 which shows a moving car in the middle of an icy setting. The visual harkens back to the end of Fast X, which saw Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) and Cipher (Charlize Theron) escaping an Antarctica-based black site prison run by the Agency before Gisele (Gal Gadot), previously presumed dead following the events of Fast & Furious 6, emerges from a submarine hatch. In the caption, Diesel teased, “Wait until you see the American road trip.”
The concept art is the latest tease Diesel has shared ahead of Fast X: Part 2, which picks up from the multiple cliffhangers at the end of Fast X. Diesel recently updated that he was doing car training for the planned sequel at a familiar franchise location. However, it’s unknown if the track will be used as a setting in the movie. Additionally, Diesel revealed plans to feature an iconic car driven by Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) in a tribute to the character following Walker’s death in 2013.
The Fast X Sequel Will “Go Back to Basics”
Fast X: Part 2 was long announced as the titular franchise’s swansong, capping Universal Pictures’ most financially successful film series ever ($7 billion grossed worldwide) since its inception in 2001. The movie will go “back to basics,” returning to the street racing roots that made Fast & Furious a popular franchise for much of its run. Furthermore, the movie will boast a smaller budget after Fast X was one of the costliest films ever made at $340 million. Fast X made $715 million at the box office, though the film attracted one of the worst domestic returns for a Fast & Furious movie while earning mixed reviews (56% on Rotten Tomatoes)
Though Diesel will return for Fast X: Part 2, some casting questions linger amid rumors the sequel could feature a new villain instead of Jason Momoa’s well-received antagonist, Dante Reyes. There are also questions about how the return of Dwayne Johnson’s lawman character, Luke Hobbs, will fit into the film, though his upcoming Hobbs spinoff film should answer them. Fast X also featured Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Brie Larson and John Cena.
Gibson recently spoke with CBR about Fast X: Part 2‘s status, claiming development and scripting will pick up in 2025 following delays caused by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Louis Leterrier, who took over from former franchise helmer James Wan to direct Fast X, will direct the upcoming finale.
