3 La Masia stars who could make a breakthrough under Hansi Flick this season

Marc Bernal

Barcelona have long been searching for an heir to the throne once occupied by Sergio Busquets. Stranded without a natural defensive midfielder, the Catalans attempted to phase in Oriol Romeu, De Jong, but the attempts were soon deemed a failure.

At just 17 years of age, Marc Bernal is seen as one of La Masia’s brightest prospects in the holding midfield role.

Defensively solid, with an ability to play between the lines, the youngster has stood out in Hansi Flick’s training sessions.

Alex Valle

The 20-year-old academy star was one of the most impressive players in the Catalans’ recent pre-season tour of the United States. What made his performances on tour even more special was the fact that they all came with him playing out of his best position.

A left-back by trade, Valle will start the new season as a backup option to Balde on the left side of defense. However, his recent performances at right-back will give the manager confidence to use him on the right flank as well.

Dani Rodriguez

The 18-year-old is regarded as one of La Masia’s most accomplished left-wingers and can provide a refreshing presence on the pitch, even as a substitute. In time, his ability to dominate the position could open the doors for him to break into the starting line-up.

Rodriguez did not take part in the club’s pre-season tour, as he was on duty with Spain at the U-19 European Championships. Now back in Catalonia, expect the youngster to become increasingly involved in Flick’s dynamic side.
