Athletic reveal latest stance on Nico Williams to Barca

Athletic Club vice-president Jon Ruigomez has expressed confidence in the club’s efforts to secure Nico Williams’ long-term future.

Despite significant interest from top European clubs, including Barcelona, Williams is believed to be leaning towards staying with Athletic.

Ruigomez emphasised the club’s calm approach, stating, “If things are done well and there is a project, there is peace of mind…

“It’s not a question of knowing or not knowing [whether Williams will leave], it’s a question of staying calm, of having confidence in the work that is being done.”

While Barca remain hopeful of signing Williams, Athletic is optimistic about their chances of retaining the talented 22-year-old.

The club’s confidence is bolstered by Williams’ recent social media post hinting at his desire to stay. However, the outcome ultimately depends on whether any suitor triggers his €58m release clause.
