Barcelona fail to reach 1:1 FFP rule even with Gundogan and Roque leaving, here’s why
Barcelona have failed to reach La Liga’s 1:1 Financial Fair Play rule, with less than 8 days to go in the transfer window. Thus, they cannot register their new signing Dani Olmo.
It’s an open secret that Barca have agreed to allow Ilkay Gundogon to leave the club for free with the midfielder forgiving the club more than €15m in potential wages. Barca are also close to loaning out Vitor Roque to Real Betis.
But there is no end in sight as regards reaching the 1:1 rule because Barca’s wage bill is still €100m above the allowed mark.
Note that since Barca are yet to reach the 1:1 rule, they can only reuse 60% of the money they save in wages and sales; in this case Gundogan, Roque and earlier Sergino Dest. All that doesn’t amount to much.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barca’s problem stems from an agreement they struck in 2022 to sell Barca Studios for €200m. Since then, Barca have only received around €140m of the money with €60m still pending.
Thus, Barca must offload more players to hit the mark before the transfer window closes. The club wants Clement Lenglet, Mikayil Faye and possibly Andreas Christensen OUT. Ansu Fati’s departure is not ruled out as well.
