Barcelona Femeni announce new coach after quadruple-winning manager walks away

After guiding Barcelona Femeni to a historic quadruple, Jonatan Giraldez decided to walk away from his role as head coach.

Giraldez claimed he was leaving Barcelona for family reasons and rejected a contract offer from the club to stay. However, he was later appointed head coach of American team Washington Spirits.

Barca didn’t waste any time in finding a replacement. The club announced on its website that Giraldez will be replaced by his 30-year-old assistant Pere Romeu.

A club statement said, “Pere Romeu has been named the new Barca Women’s coach. The 30-year-old Catalan from Barcelona has signed for two seasons through to June 30, 2026. Romeu will be joined on the bench by Rafel Navarro, who has extensive experience as part of the Blaugrana staff, having worked with the team since 2019.

“Romeu replaces Jonatan Giráldez in the role after being his assistant for the last three seasons. The season just gone saw the team win the quadruple of the Spanish Super Cup, the Liga F, the Copa de la Reina and the Champions League.”

Congratulations, Pere!
