Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes Set For ‘Leap’ With New Additions in 2024?

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had a poor season statistically despite winning the Super Bowl, but is he about to remind us all of his talents in 2024?

Last season was an oddity for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. He led his team to Super Bowl glory for the second time in two seasons despite having a poor statistical season.

Mahomes lost the most games in the regular season of his career (six), had his lowest passing yards (4,183) and touchdown (27) totals since 2019, and had his highest-ever interception total (14) and a career-worst QBR of 63.1, yet he still managed to claim his third Super Bowl ring.

Part of Mahomes’ “decline” was due to his receiving unit’s lack of depth aside from Travis Kelce and Rashee Rice. But this offseason, the front office signed Marquise Brown in free agency and drafted Xavier Worthy in the first round to rectify that.

With two new weapons at his disposal, CBS Sports thinks Mahomes could have a vastly different season in 2024

“Patrick Mahomes is an easy call to make a leap in 2024 after he ranked 15th in EPA per play last season while posting career lows in yards per attempt, touchdown-to-interception ratio and passing yards per game,” CBS Sports wrote. His deep ball has all but disappeared since the Chiefs traded Tyreek Hill, but that might change this year, thanks to the prodding of Andy Reid.”

In truth, it won’t be too hard for Mahomes to improve on his 2023 season output, and with Brown and Worthy, two speed merchants who give Andy Reid’s offense another dimension, Kansas City is again poised to strike.

With Mahomes, the Chiefs have the best quarterback in football, and the front office has made his life easier with the acquisitions of Brown and Worthy. However, they must now mesh together in Reid’s offensive scheme.

While some think it’s a foregone conclusion that they will hit the ground running, if they don’t, it will be interesting to see how the Chiefs’ offense operates.

However, if the pair do and give Mahomes his deep threat option back, then don’t just expect a small leap from No. 15, he could have an MVP-type one
