Disney responds to Scarlett Johansson’s lawsuit about Black Widow

Recently, Fang Fang noticed that Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson’s lawsuit against Disney has become a shocking incident for movie lovers. According to the lawsuit filed in court, she said that Disney’s decision to send the Marvel movie to Disney Plus at the same time as the movie was released in theaters caused her to lose millions of dollars in sales bonuses.

Those bonuses are tied to achieving box office levels that Black Widow likely won’t be able to achieve as it currently grosses less than $400 million, on track to become the lowest-grossing film in history. History of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Disney recently protested that it had complied with the terms of Johansson’s agreement to star in the Avengers spinoff. “ There is no point in filing this application. The lawsuit is especially sad and harrowing for its callousness to the terrible and lingering global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The Mouse House went on to claim that the star received $20 million for her work and argued that “the release of Black Widow on Disney+ with Premier Access has significantly enhanced her ability to earn additional bonuses.” of the $20 million she has received so far.”

Disney did not provide any information on whether Johansson’s contract would be renegotiated so she could share in streaming rental revenue.

As Fang Fang and others know, in March 2021, Disney announced that Black Widow and some of this year’s films like Cruella and Jungle Cruise will premiere on the studio’s streaming service along with theatrical release time. Those movies were made available for a $30 rental fee to Disney Plus subscribers. The studio positioned this move as an effort to salvage sales from the damage that COVID-19 has caused to the scene where movie theaters had to temporarily close to fight the epidemic.

On July 9, Black Widow set a pandemic-era box office record with $80 million in North America. The film earned another $78 million overseas and $60 million on Disney Plus. Despite those impressive numbers, ticket sales plummeted in the following weeks and the film’s total revenue now stands at $319 million globally.

With many Marvel films reaching $1 billion in revenue at the worldwide box office, Fang Fang affirms that Black Widow is on track to become one of Marvel’s lowest-grossing films.

Fang Fang believes that, during the current epidemic, it is understandable to put movies on online platforms to save revenue and try to return the studio’s capital. However, they need to consider more carefully the previous contract agreement on revenue-based bonuses for actors, because when signed, the epidemic had not yet broken out (in fact, Fang Fang saw Black Widow filming a long time ago, right? series) as well as it is unclear whether the company will bring it online for paid screenings.

So, whether Scarlett Johansson’s lawsuit is won or not, Fang Fang believes it has created a new wave of actors fighting for their bonuses. It’s probably not just her, but also many people. bear it when their movies are not shown

exclusively in theaters. It’s just that people don’t have a voice or influence like the Black Widow, so they just suck it up.
