Keanu Reeves begged the director to kill John Wick
Keanu Reeves said he was tired of pursuing the character John Wick. The producer said the actor begged for the character to “die” at the end of part 4.
In an interview with Collider, Basil Iwanyk, producer of the John Wick series, said that the main character Keanu Reeves begged the crew to let his character “die” in part 4 of the hit series.
“After the fourth film, we felt like we were tired of making it. We were destroying Keanu. He was so miserable that he said, ‘I can’t do it anymore’ at the end of the last scene. We were okay with that,” Iwanyk said.
During the filming of John Wick 4 , the actor went through many dangerous scenes, including sitting in a car with no doors, a shootout at the Arc de Triomphe in France, a horse chase… The actor said he was tired of pursuing the series.

“I want my character to be killed at the end of the movie,” Keanu Reeves told the director.
To “follow” Reeves’ wishes, the director let the character John Wick collapse in front of the Sacré Coeur church, followed by the scene where the characters Winston and the Bowery King visit John Wick’s grave. The open ending makes the audience doubt the future of the film.
However, in another interview, director Chad Stahelski said he did shoot a different ending, contrary to the one where John Wick died. Despite his fatigue with the film, Keanu Reeves said he would be willing to return to the series if Chad Stahelski were to continue directing.
In an interview with Deadline, the producer said the director was in Japan planning the fifth installment of the series, hoping to break away from the series’ rut.
Despite being tired of the series, John Wick is still a popular brand and has made a name for itself for Keanu Reeves. Part 4 of the assassin series brought in about 430 million USD for Lionsgate, bringing the total of 4 films to 1 billion USD. The film is also highly appreciated by experts with 95% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
