La Liga’s top assistant publicly hints at desire to play for Barca

“I like Barca’s style of play and I think it benefits me,” Villarreal’s Alex Baena has told RAC1.

This is not the first time Baena flirts with Barcelona – he previously said he would ‘love’ to play for the club if they paid his €60m release clause.

The 22-year-old could be the perfect fit for Blaugrana given that he usually plays as an attacking midfielder or a left winger – but Barca are said to be more interested in signing one of Dani Olmo, Nico Williams or Luis Diaz.

Baena has finished the season as La Liga’s top assistant with 14 in 34 matches. He only found the net twice with an xG [expected goals] of almost 8.0, though.
