Law & Order: Organized Crime Gets Renewed for Season 5 — But With a Catch

NBC has revealed the future of the spinoff series Law & Order: Organized Crime. Following rumors that the show might move to Peacock to continue, it’s now been confirmed that this is the plan for the Dick Wolf drama series.

Per Deadline, Law & Order: Organized Crime has been renewed for a fifth season consisting of 10 episodes. However, the renewal comes with a big change, as the show is moving off of broadcast television. As prior reports suggested, Organized Crime will become a streaming show by moving to Peacock for Season 5. Meanwhile, Law & Order and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit will remain on NBC, though new episodes will be made available for streaming the next day on Peacock, joining Organized Crime.

This is the first time a Law & Order series has made the switch from broadcast television to streaming, though it’s not the first time the franchise saw one of its shows get a new home. Law & Order: Criminal Intent previously ran on NBC for six seasons before moving to USA Network, where it lasted another four seasons.

The strategy of finding new life on streaming after getting canceled on television has also been seen as a success elsewhere, such as Fox shows Lucifer and The Mindy Project respectively getting saved at Netflix and Hulu.

Other Shows Are on the Bubble at NBC

NBC has doled out renewal orders for other shows recently like Found and The Irrational. Others like Lopez vs Lopez and Extended Family remain on the bubble. The Night Court revival series is ano

ther show that has yet to be renewed or canceled after two seasons on NBC, though the show is reportedly expected to continue.

Warren Leight and Julie Martin developed Law & Order: Organized Crime. It is executive produced by Dick Wolf, series star Christopher Meloni, showrunner John Shiban, Paul Cabbad, Arthur W. Forney, and Peter Jankowski. The series stars Christopher Meloni as franchise fan favorite Elliot Stabler, with other cast members including Danielle Moné Truitt, Ainsley Seiger, and Rick Gonzalez.

The series debuted on NBC in 2021. It notably brought back Meloni’s Elliot Stabler after a prolonged absence from the franchise, and it’s included crossovers with Law & Order and Law & Order: Organized Crime. The show follows Stabler and his fellow detectives who are working as a part of the Organized Crime Control Bureau.
