The NBA’s all-time leading scorer LeBron James and current MVP Joel Embiid are leading the American men’s basketball team to the Olympics in Paris, USA Basketball announced on Wednesday.
James, who has two gold and one bronze from the Olympics and missed the last two, will play with Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers, Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns, who has three gold medals from the Olympics, and Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors.
This glamorous group, known as the Paris “Dream Team,” is made up only of NBA All-Stars and boasts six NBA champions and four MVPs.
The executive director of the men’s national team for USA Basketball, Grant Hill, conveyed his appreciation for the dedication of these twelve players. “Some of the best basketball players in the world are from the United States, and we are very grateful that they are willing to play,” Hill stated.
He referred to the Olympics as the pinnacle of sporting activities, and he acknowledged the intense competition that is expected there.
Starting on August 3, the U.S. squad will play in Group C in Puerto Rico against Serbia, South Sudan, and the victor of the qualifying rounds.
The dates of the Paris Olympics are July 26–August 11.
