Mariska Hargitay got to share a special moment with her kids this week.
On Friday, April 5, the Law and Order: SVU star, 60, was photographed as she lit up the Empire State Building in teal and green in partnership with the Joyful Heart Foundation and NBC Entertainment in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month and the 25th season of her show.
Hargitay was joined by her older son August, 17, and daughter Amaya, 12, and the trio posed for some snaps together around the iconic building. The star wore a blue dress while Amaya opted for a black skirt and white sweater. August wore a velvet, navy blazer and jeans, standing next to his mom and sister in the shots.
Her kids then helped her to pull up a lever that lit up the Empire State Building in shades of teal and green.
Hargitay shares her daughter Amaya and sons August and Andrew, 12, with husband Peter Hermann.
In February, the mom of three was seen sitting courtside with Andrew as they enjoyed the New York Knicks game together. Hargitay wore yellow cowboy boots and a tan jacket, clapping her hands together as she cheered on the team.
Her teen son looked pensive as he sat next to his mom, focused on the game in front of him.
“He thinks I play a cop on TV, end of story,” she said of her younger son Andrew. “So he asked ‘Why does everyone say I love you’ when we’re walking down the street?”
Andrew doesn’t yet know she plays Olivia Benson on the long-running TV series, but he has seen one of her other roles.
“I did this movie so many years ago, I just did a little voiceover, no big deal,” she said. “And then my son, who loves anime now, he found out that I was in this movie. He said, ‘What? You’re in this movie?’ And we sat and watched it. And I’m sitting on the couch with my 12-year-old son who, first of all, the movie’s good, but he just thought it was the coolest thing.”
“So for him to see me in this movie that he loves, he said ‘Mom, it’s such a cool character.’ And it was this moment of had I known that, almost 20 years ago, that I would have this moment with my son that was so bonding and sacred, I just sat there going, ‘I don’t know that life gets better than this moment.’”
“And that’s what’s exciting about life, that in many ways, we’re getting ready our whole lives for things,” she reflected, “because I keep learning things are worth the wait.”
