'My ears stopped': Lamine Yamal opens up on first experience playing at Camp Nou – he was 15

“When I entered the Camp Nou for the first time, my ears stopped and I could no longer hear anything,” Lamine Yamal told UEFA in his interview as he recalled his Barca debut last year.

Yamal made his debut at Camp Nou on April 29, 2023, in a league game against Real Betis. He was aged just 15 years and nine months at the time. Thus, he smashed the record for the youngest player ever to play for Barca.

The youngster went on to thank Xavi for trusting him with such a huge responsibility.

“I will always be grateful to Xavi because not everybody would have let me debut at 15,” Yamal said.

“This season he has given me minutes in almost every match and in every match he asks me to enjoy it and do what I always do in training. He told me that things will go well,” the youngster added.

Yamal has continued to impress under Xavi this season with five goals and as many assists in his 33 appearances.
