New York Yankees Young Star Voted to Become Breakout Star by MLB Execs

A New York Yankees young star was voted to be a breakout star of the 2024 MLB season by executives.

The vibes are high for the New York Yankees after a 6-1 start, putting themselves in an early position to take control of the American League East. In a division, winning games in the early stages of the season will come back to be a major benefit in a race that could end up being won on one of the final days of the year.

Of the players who have impressed throughout the first seven games of the season, none have been better than Anthony Volpe.

The second-year star has been one of the best players in baseball and a huge help to a Yankees lineup that needs production from others outside of Juan Soto and Aaron Judge.

Volpe had a decent rookie season, finishing with over 20 home runs, 20 stolen bases, and winning a Gold Glove. If his batting average and on-base percentage, which were .209 and .283 respectively in 2023 can improve, he has a chance to be one of the top shortstops in baseball.

The possibility of him being a high-level player is the reason why MLB executives ranked him as a breakout star heading into the season.

According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, more than two dozen MLB executives voted on who the breakout star of 2024 will be. Volpe was tied for the fifth most votes.

He’s had as impressive of a start to the season as anyone could’ve hoped for, slashing .409/.500/.682 with one home run and three doubles. It’s still early and he’ll need to continue showing that he’s capable of producing offensively, but Volpe has all of the tools to do just that.
