It was revealed in a December 2018 Vogue cover story that Jonas made the first move via Twitter DM on September 8, 2016. “I’m hearing from a few mutual friends that we should meet,” he wrote to Chopra. She responded, ‘My team can read this. Why don’t you just text me,’ along with her phone number.
The future couple would text for several months, although Chopra admits she had never allowed her relationships to go public before. But when it came to Jonas, she told Vogue she thought, “What is happening? I’ve not known myself like this.” Jonas had been previously linked to Olivia Culpo and Miley Cyrus.
February 2017
In the same Vogue interview, the pair remembers reconnecting at the 2017 Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty. Jonas recalls that when he saw Chopra walk into the room, he put his drink down and got on one knee to say (in front of a crowd), “You’re real. Where have you been all my life?'”
May 2017
Months later, Ralph Lauren coincidentally invited both Jonas and Chopra to attend the Met Gala in his designs. A week before the event, Jonas and Chopra grabbed a drink together at the Carlyle Hotel. She also invited Jonas to her apartment for a night that ended not with a kiss, but a platonic back pat. However, Joe Jonas told Vogue that after the Met Gala and its afterparties Chopra “kind of knocked him off his feet. He was just this little puppy dog.”
Later that month, Chopra told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live that while she wouldn’t rule out a future flirtation with Jonas, the two were just friends.

Jonas commented, “That smile ❤️” on an Instagram of Chopra. “Burgers and Chanel…my favourite combo with my fav girls,” she captioned a meal at In-N-Out.

Chopra soon began commenting on Jonas’s posts. On a photo of the musician posing with a koala bear at an Australian zoo, she wrote, “Who is cuter?”
Next, the potential couple was spotted at JFK airport for a trip where Chopra reportedly met Jonas’s parents in New Jersey. “It’s a huge deal that Nick brought Priyanka to his cousin’s wedding,” a source close to the couple told People. “He’s dated a lot over the last couple years but it’s never been anything serious, so this is a big step.” The source added, “Nick and Priyanka really like each other, and his family enjoyed getting to know her as well. She’ll fit right in!”
Weeks after Chopra accompanied Jonas to his cousin’s wedding, the new couple flies to India for a week-long vacation so Jonas can meet Chopra’s family. A People source said, “They’re very happy. It’s getting serious.”
During the visit, the couple went IG official. Jonas shared a video of Chopra walking toward him across a balcony with the caption,”Her 😍.”

Around this time the couple was also spotted wearing matching gold bands, although no engagement was announced just yet. They ware reportedly on display for a Citi biking excursion with Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner through NYC over Fourth of July weekend.
Jonas and Chopra went on a double date with Joe, Turner, and Kevin in London’s Mayfair. E! reports that the pair could be moving in together soon. “Priyanka and Nick are still very serious,” a source told the outlet. “They have a very healthy relationship and truly are a good pair. Nick has basically been living in Priyanka’s New York City apartment with her and they spend a lot of time together. They next step is him permanently moving in, and it has been a discussion.”

On July 27, a source close to the couple told People that Jonas and Chopra were engaged in London on her 36th birthday. Jonas later clarified for Vogue that he had shut down a Tiffany & Co. in London to select the ring with his brother a few weeks earlier. He popped the question at midnight after Chopra’s birthday while in Crete. “I got down on one knee, again, and I said: Will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?” Jonas told the outlet. “No joke—she took about 45 seconds. Forty-five seconds of silence.” Finally, the musician said, “I’m going to put this ring on your finger now unless you have any objections.”
Around that time, Us Weekly reported that the newly-engaged pair visited newlyweds Prince Harry and Chopra’s close friend, Meghan Markle at their country home.

A couple of weeks after the engagement, a source told People that Jonas and his family were traveling to India to meet Chopra’s family. “Nick has been obsessed with Priyanka since they started dating,” the source said. “He obviously thinks she’’ beautiful, but he’s also drawn to her intelligence. She has this charisma and energy that draws you to her, and she’s fit in so well with his friends and family.”
E! ran a report that the Jonas family was traveling to India expressly for an engagement party hosted by Chopra’s family. “It’s going to be the first time that their families intermingle and get to know each other,” a source said. The insider alludes to a short engagement by saying, “Priyanka wants everything to be traditional to respect her family’s values, and definitely an Indian wedding. Priyanka and Nick are excited for everyone to meet and to celebrate. Everything is very secretive but guests are expected to head there starting tomorrow. All of the plans are moving quickly and Priyanka and Nick do not want to have a long engagement.”
On August 18, Chopra and Jonas finally confirmed their engagement by posting matching photos of them looking into each other’s eyes. Chopra’s engagement ring was on full display.
