Inter Miami fans are delighted Lionel Messi’s teammate Robert Taylor has signed a contract extension at DRV PNK Stadium. The Finnish attacker is a fan favorite among Herons fans and has been with them since early 2022.

Taylor has signed a new deal with the MLS side that will see him continue until December 2026. The club can extend the 34-cap Finland international’s new contract by another year as they have a one-year option.

The 29-year-old was thrilled to extend his stay with Inter Miami and hopes to win trophies with David Beckham’s co-owned MLS franchise. He said (via the club’s official website):

“I’m really happy to sign a contract extension with Inter Miami. It’s a big honor and it motivates me even more to win trophies, which we are on the right track for. I hope to leave a good image and play here as long as I can.”

Taylor has been a key member of the Inter Miami side before and during Lionel Messi’s arrival at Vice City. He’s made 101 appearances, scoring 16 goals and providing 17 assists. He’s been in fine form this season with five goals and three assists in 24 games across competitions.

Taylor’s extension went down well with fans on X (formerly Twitter) and one fan had high praise for the Finnish forward:

“Well deserved. Not an exaggeration to call him one of the best signings in club history.”

Another fan hopes the Herons aren’t tempted to trade the former Tromso winger:

Taylor has forged a fine partnership with Lionel Messi since the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner arrived last summer. They’ve been involved in five goals, with the Finnish winger assisting the Argentine icon on three occasions.

The Herons attacker shined during Inter Miami’s Leagues Cup triumph last summer. Messi captained the Herons to glory, and his new teammate was living the dream, as he expressed in August 2023 (via Sky Sports):

“It’s a dream come true… I’ve watched him play all my life at the highest level, and now, to play with him and to be in the same team as him is crazy.”

Taylor and Messi are key for Gerardo Martino’s side who are top of the MLS Eastern Conference table. They will be eager to continue flourishing together at DRV PNK and bringing trophies to Miami.
