The Kansas City Chiefs have had it pretty good with the tandem of quarterback Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid. But Mahomes recently broached the idea of joining another team in a future offseason, and his head coach joked he might have to follow him.
The Chiefs have won three Super Bowls with Reid coaching Mahomes. They’ll have a chance to earn a threepeat next February. There was much speculation about Reid’s and star tight end Travis Kelce’s future with the team before February’s Super Bowl. Plenty of questions will be asked about Reid’s potential retirement from the league in the upcoming season.
For now, Kansas City fans should enjoy having the dynasty in place. It might not be the same in a few years. In a decade, the Chiefs might not even play in Kansas City. The Chiefs and Kansas City Royals will explore options to expand their private enterprise outside Jackson County after a tax referendum failed to pass earlier this month.

According to Sean Gregory with Time, Mahomes said he wants to explore his own options with the Royals.
“I’ve talked to the Royals,” says Mahomes. “And if I can maybe go out to a spring training, I’m not opposed to that. I’ll get it approved by the Chiefs and everything like that. But maybe one of these years I go out there and see what I got. See if I can still hit the ball or pitch or whatever that is. Maybe not in the games but I can at least practice with them.”
Would Andy Reid join him?

Gregory talked to Reid about Mahomes’ wishes to work out with the Royals. Reid thinks Mahomes could play in the MLB–after all, he was recruited to Texas Tech as a baseball player and was drafted into the MLB in 2014. Reid joked that he’d want to join the Royals’ staff:
“I haven’t even thought about that,” he says. “You’re hitting me with a pretty big one right there. He was a heck of a baseball player,” Reid says. “He grew up around it. I’m sure he can play in the major leagues. I mean, he’s pretty gifted.” Reid would have one stipulation. “He’d have to take me as a manager.”
At least for the spring.
The Kansas City Chiefs shouldn’t worry about the Royals taking Mahomes

The Chiefs take priority in the fall, especially in a city where the local baseball team is usually out of the playoffs by the time the NFL’s training camp starts. Mahomes and Reid are too good at football to watch a future Hall of Fame signal-caller trade in his shoulder pads for a bat and glove. However, it would generate some excitement for the MLB and Royals if Mahomes went to spring training.
Mahomes probably could succeed at some level in the sport. Tim Tebow had decent success at the minor league level once he gave up his football career. Could Mahomes’ incredible arm get him to the MLB?
