In the early morning of July 2, Portugal won a hard-fought 3-0 penalty shootout victory over Slovenia in the round of 16 of Euro 2024. The player who created the most notable developments was Cristiano Ronaldo .

The 39-year-old superstar played extremely hard for 120 minutes. However, he disappointed when he missed an important penalty at the end of the first extra time. That was a situation where Ronaldo was caught and saved by goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

However, later in the penalty shootout, he made amends when he successfully converted the first kick, opening the victory for the Portuguese team .

Speaking about the missed penalty, the Portuguese captain shared: “I failed to take advantage of the opportunity on the penalty spot. Oblak was so excellent, I feel extremely disappointed in myself.

I have never missed a penalty in the past year, but today I failed again,” he added.

“Even the strongest people have moments when they fall… I can’t say anything more than that right now,” Ronaldo told Sport TV in tears.

Ronaldo also officially ended speculation about his future when he declared: “This is definitely my last Euro.”

Ronaldo also shared about having to face France in the quarter-finals: “Portugal will have a difficult match with France but we will fight with all our might. This victory is a great motivation and I will dedicate myself to this shirt.

I have never been afraid to face difficulties and giving up is something you will never hear from me”.
