“Scarlett Johansson and Disney Continue ‘War of Words’ Amid ‘Black Widow’ Lawsuit”
Recently, foreign newspapers reported on new statements from Scarlett Johansson and Disney. Both sides constantly give counter opinions to attack the other while protecting their own interests.
According to THR, Disney is looking for the most peaceful way to resolve the controversy by transferring the lawsuit to a commercial arbitration court to avoid public attention. Immediately, Mr. John Berlinski, the lawyer representing Scarlett Johansson, responded to this decision:
“After trying to attack Ms. Johansson with bitter words, it is not surprising that Disney is now trying to cover up its wrongdoing with a secret trial.
Why is Disney so afraid of a lawsuit playing out in the public eye? Because they knew that Marvel had previously agreed to release Black Widow like their other movies. However, it seems that Disney forced Marvel to violate the contract in order to increase sales for online services. And we are ready to provide evidence for this.”
However, Disney representatives still insist that the company has done its responsibility. According to the contract, the publisher is required to release it in 1,500 theaters, while the actual number according to Box Office Moji’s statistics was more than 4,100 at the time of launch. In addition, the contract does not clearly state that Black Widow will be released exclusively in theaters.
Disney pointed out that the number Black Widow earned in its first week of release was much higher than some other Marvel movies. Even compared to other blockbusters released exclusively in theaters like Fast 9 , Black Widow is somewhat better. Therefore, the company believes that Scarlett Johansson’s request is completely unsatisfactory.
