Schoolboy Q Jokes ‘Canadian Police Don’t Want Nobody From TDE Performing’ as Toronto Tour Opener Gets Canceled
“If we wanted to get yall we would’ve just did it,” Q tweeted.
Schoolboy Q’s wondering if he’s collateral damage in the 2024 rap war between Drake and Kendrick Lamar.
Wednesday night on Twitter, Q was getting excited to kick off his Blue Lips Weekends tour with sold-out shows in Toronto and Chicago, offering fans tickets if they can prove they bought his March album Blue Lips or related merch.
Shortly after, Schoolboy circled back to announce his July 18 tour opener in Drake’s city was unceremoniously scrapped.
“They just cancelled my show in Toronto 😂,” the 37-year-old tweeted, quipping in all caps that the reason is “Canadian police dont want nobody from TDE performing.”
Q assured fans there’s nothing to actually worry about, as Top Dawg was recently in the same place as Lil Wayne and Birdman, and OVO’s PartyNextDoor played a show in L.A.
“TOP was just wit Wayne & Baby smh partynextdoor just had a show @ the palladium 🤦🏾♂️,” Schoolboy said. “if we wanted to get yall we would’ve just did it.. now when sumbody get hurt don’t cry…”
He went on to admit he finds the cancelation funny and speculated if his appearance in the “Not Like Us” music video got him in trouble with the nation of Canada.
“Actually I get it,” he wrote. “Nvm this shit lokey hilarious 😂 … Iono why dot put me in that fucking video 🤦🏾♂️.”
Rick Ross might not have thought there was anything to worry about in Drizzy’s country either, but ended up getting physically attacked as “Not Like Us” played at an early July event in Vancouver.
When a fan told Schoolboy Q he “might’ve got Rick Ross’d” in Toronto, he replied, “I don’t think u know who I am.”
Akademiks then entered the chat, quote-tweeting Q’s “now when sumbody get hurt don’t cry” post and writing, “Sending Prayers for Peace and healing. Battle was good. Time to move on.”
Schoolboy replied, “I neva said ‘ima kill sumbody’ im saying if we wanted to crack it off we could’ve smh. Rap and move on playin tuff gon get sumbody hurt it’s all good 😂 ima soccer dad. … See I be at soccer games. Ok I’m done til chicago I’m sorry if y’all took dat as a threat and not advice.”
The “Yeern 101” MC announced 11 Blue Lips Weekends dates back in April, including Atlanta, Brooklyn, Houston, San Francisco, and more. Last week he added gigs in Boston, Phoenix, and Portland.
He’ll wrap with four shows in his home city from Aug. 14 to Aug. 18.
