Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay’s undeniable chemistry on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has captured the hearts of many fans.
This chemistry has not only translated on screen but also off screen, as Mariska recently revealed in a pre-show interview for the Emmy’s. When asked about working together again after Christopher’s departure from the show in 2011, he replied, “Never been better… I mean if you had told me I’d have the career I have at this time in the twilight of my life.” The duo was then asked about their onscreen chemistry and how they maintain a spark after so many years of working together.
Christopher responded by saying they are “very lucky,” while Mariska described it as “effortless” and “weird.”
They believe their shared sense of humor, perspective, and shared history contribute to their strong connection. The co-stars also admitted that they never get tired of each other. Mariska exclaimed, “Never once! I love him.” However, their relationship has never turned romantic. Mariska has been happily married to Peter Hermann, whom she met on the Law & Order: SVU set. Peter portrayed the recurring role of attorney Trevor Langan.
They got married in 2004 and are now proud parents of four children.
Despite fans’ hopes of seeing Christopher and Mariska together in real life, it seems their onscreen chemistry remains simply professional. Although a real-life romance may not be in the cards for Christopher and Mariska, fans can still hold onto hope for their beloved characters. Given the progress of their onscreen storyline, it is possible that Stabler and Benson may take the plunge and become a couple in the next season of Law & Order: SVU.
Whether it happens or not, one thing is for sure: the undeniable chemistry between Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay continues to captivate audiences and keep them invested in the show.
