Stephen A. Smith Suggests a New Role for Colin Kaepernick in the NFL
Stephen A. Smith recently expressed his views on the potential return of Colin Kaepernick to the NFL, albeit not as a player but as a coach.
The new head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, Jim Harbaugh, has extended a coaching position to the former quarterback. “If that was ever the path he was to take, I think that would be tremendous,” Harbaugh commented, as reported by USA Today.
“He’d be a tremendous coach, if that’s the path he chose.”
Smith addressed the unexpected offer during his podcast on Wednesday. Despite previously being a vocal critic of Kaepernick, Smith acknowledged that Kaepernick could excel in a coaching role.
“If he wants to bring Colin Kaepernick there, cool. No problem.
I think he would be a good coach,” Smith stated, according to Awful Announcing. However, he firmly believes Kaepernick’s days as an NFL player are over.
“What I would say, however, is I don’t want to hear [expletive] about him being a quarterback. That ship should have sailed,” he added.
Colin Kaepernick recently expressed his ongoing ambition to return to the NFL as a quarterback and contribute to a team’s Super Bowl victory. Speaking to Sky Sports, Kaepernick emphasized his readiness and lifelong preparation for such a comeback, stating, “We’ve just got to get one of these team owners to open up.”
His last appearance in the NFL was in 2016, and despite his absence, he believes he has much to offer any team willing to bring him on board. Whether he will accept an offer from NFL coach Jim Harbaugh is yet to be determined.
Additionally, Kaepernick has also made a major announcement regarding his involvement in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
