Lamine Yamal has made a strong impression at Euro 2024 for Spain. The Barca prodigy is the youngest player to feature in the tournament but has already proven his talent and maturity.

Lamine Yamal has had two assists and many excellent performances, contributing to the Spanish team’s advancement to the quarter-finals of Euro 2024. So it is no surprise that he is the center of attention every time coach Luis de la Fuente puts him on the field.

Lamine Yamal, however, is not of Spanish descent. His mother is from Equatorial Guinea and his father is from Morocco. So Yamal is eligible to play for both countries, but the 16-year-old has chosen Spain, the country of his birth.

Yamal’s printing of the flags of Equatorial Guinea and Morocco on the boots he wears when playing for the Spanish national team is a tribute to the homeland of his father and mother.

Another young star at Euro 2024 who has made a similar move is England’s Cole Palmer. The Chelsea midfielder has had the St. Kitts and Nevis flag printed on his boots.

Although Yamal is one of the brightest stars of Euro 2024, he is involved in a rather humorous controversy . Because he is only 16 years old, he must comply with German working time regulations for people under 18.

According to the law, athletes like Yamal are only allowed to work until 11pm every day, instead of 8pm for others. In theory, the Spanish Football Federation could be fined 30,000 euros if Yamal played after 11pm.

Speaking about the issue, coach Luis de La Fuente shared: “We are all responsible for Yamal’s health. We will do our duty and let him play football.”
