The Scots will be cheering for Spain in the Euro final - they left a special message

The rivalry between Scotland and England sometimes reaches incredible proportions. Fans of both teams hate each other for different reasons. Disputes between them have been going on since ages. And now there is a new reason for the conflict.

The Scottish newspaper The National published a very provocative photo on Saturday. It shows the Spaniard Rodri kicking a ball, but instead an English fan is depicted. Also on the front page, the reader is greeted with an inscription: “Our message to the Spaniards: save us from an England victory or we will hear about this win for the rest of our lives.”

Just look at that.

Many Scots will be rooting for the Spanish team, not their neighbors. However, social media users were very angry when they saw this picture.

“As a supporter of independence since my teenage years, this is embarrassing. You need to have a conversation with whoever thought this was appropriate. There are a lot of English people who love the Scots and vice versa. So to see this is not normal,” the user wrote. Another agreed: “Wow. How shallow, bitter and sad. I feel sorry for you. You also know that if you had gotten independence, which you didn’t and never will. And Spain would be the first to block your entry into the EU”.

Other fans, on the other hand, began to justify the authors of the cover: “Are people really upset about this? It’s obviously just a cheeky way of making fun of those ‘little English’ who hate people”. Another user adds: “Best cover ever, thank you very much.”

It looks like half of Scotland will now be rooting for England to finally dispel the myth of hostility between Scotland and them. Do you think The National went too far with their provocation?
