Travis Kelce concludes TEU, the homage to Patrick Mahomes, and further
The Kansas City Chiefs are quiet these days but players are still doing their thing in their personal and professional lives and we’ve got all the latest happenings from the team’s biggest stars in our latest news round-up.
For the fourth consecutive season, the greatest tight ends in the game came together to offer advice, camaraderie, and more to fellow colleagues at the same position at the annual Tight End University.
For the last three days, Travis Kelce, George Kittle and others have led a retreat of sorts intended to drill deeper into playing the tight end position from those who do it best. Held at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, it’s been a well-attended event in years past and this year looks like another successful round.
Former NFL tight end Greg Olsen, also one of the founders of the event, was also around and it’s clear the guys relish the chance to see each other despite any on-field rivalries.

Patrick Mahomes tips cap to Willie Mays
One of the oldest living baseball Hall of Famers died on Wednesday with the passing of the great Willie Mays. Social media was immediately filled with posts honoring his incredible and inimitable legacy—even from those in other sports.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was among those who tipped their proverbial cap to Mays with a post “RIP to a true legend”:
Arguably the greatest baseball player who ever lived—or at least in that conversation—Mays was 93 years old when he passed away on Wednesday, leaving behind a legacy that will never be forgotten.
Breeland Speaks returning?
While the door looks closed for any return to the Chiefs, the good news for Breeland Speaks is that a chance to come back to the NFL looks quite possible. Our friend Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports has word that Speaks has been in contact with two teams—the Carolina Panthers and Tennessee Titans—after the conclusion of the UFL season.
Speaks was named Defensive Player of the Year in the UFL after leading the league with 9.5 sacks. It was a strong showing in the developmental league and it could be Speaks’ way back into the sport’s highest level.
The Chiefs first brought Speaks into the league by making him their second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft—the first-ever draft choice made in Brett Veach’s tenure as general manager. Unfortunately, he would only play with middling results during his rookie season before injuries limited him and he ultimately flamed out after a couple of seasons in K.C.
