UEFA officially fined the boy who took a photo with Ronaldo at Euro 2024

UEFA has announced that the boy who took a selfie with Cristiano Ronaldo will be banned from attending all remaining matches at Euro 2024.

The incident occurred during Portugal’s 3-0 victory over Turkey at Westfalenstadion. A boy wearing a red shirt rushed to the stadium illegally, took out his phone and took a photo of Ronaldo, causing the match to be interrupted for a while.

The boy continued to run away from security guards who tried to capture him but were unsuccessful and was later led out of the stadium. The photo he took and posted on social networks after the match quickly spread widely.

Previously, UEFA announced that violations of the field would result in heavy penalties. Normally one would also see criminal charges filed against the perpetrator, but given his young age, the boy will not be prosecuted in this particular case.

A statement released to  Express Sport read: “Any entry into the ground is a breach of stadium regulations and will result in being ejected from the stadium, banned from all match in the tournament and filed a formal criminal complaint for infringement”.

“There is no criminal liability for children under 12 years of age, however the accompanying adult remains responsible for ensuring that the child complies with stadium regulations in accordance with the terms and conditions of ticketing.”
