“It’s a director’s nightmare,” Fast and Furious co-star Jason Statham says of working with him.
Known for his action-packed movies, the Hollywood star Jason Statham joined the popular franchise Fast and Furious taking on the role of Deckard Shaw with its sixth installment. He has since reprised his role in the following movies and has seamlessly transitioned from a formidable villain to an integral member of the core Fast and Furious team and one of the standout characters in the franchise.
While Deckard Shaw ultimately joins the crew, the Hollywood actor was still having a hard time adjusting to his new co-stars, whom he described as very unpredictable, while working on the 2017 film The Fate of the Furious.
Jason Statham Shared His Experience Working With Unpredictable Co-Stars
The 2017 film The Fate of the Furious brought back the ensemble cast of the Fast and Furious franchise, including Jason Statham as Deckard Shaw. The film involves Shaw teaming up with the rest of the crew to save Dominic’s (Vin Diesel) baby son, Brian Marcos, from Cipher (Charlize Theron).
Statham’s character had to infiltrate Cipher’s plane and fight off assassins in order to protect the baby, resulting in a gripping and memorable sequence. However, it was not easy to film the sequence with babies, as The Transporter actor shared during an interview with USA Today. He shared,
“We had two babies and we did the best we could to keep (them) happy. It’s a director’s nightmare. You never know what they are going to come up with. But when the baby comes up with gold, it just brings the house down.”
Despite the on-set challenges, Statham expressed his enjoyment of collaborating with the film’s cast, including his Hobbs and Shaw co-star Dwayne Johnson. The Beekeeper actor reprised his role in the 2023 film Fast X and is also expected to return in the eleventh and potentially the last movie of the beloved franchise.
Jason Statham Expected to Return in Hobbs and Shaw 2
Hiram Garcia from Seven Bucks Productions has suggested that the sequel to the 2019 film Hobbs & Shaw is under development. In a conversation with The Wrap, he shared, “We never like to announce anything like that prematurely… but we are writing the story.”
Although the official cast for the sequel has not been revealed, it is expected to include Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, given that their characters are featured prominently in the title. The sequel is also expected to introduce new characters, as the Jumanji star has suggested that it will bring fresh faces to the ensemble. Producer Kelly McCormick has also hinted at the potential return of Ryan Reynolds and Kevin Hart, possibly with expanded roles compared to the 2019 film.
