Keanu Reeves Reportedly Got Engaged In Secret After His Girlfriend Of 5 Years Proposed To Him

It appears Keanu Reeves may be getting married, as report say the long-time bachelor is engaged to his girlfriend, Alexandra Grant, after she popped the question.

“Alexandra proposed,” a source told InTouch. “It was pretty impressive of her to ask but then again, Alexandra is a strong independent woman who knows what she wants.”

“Keanu and Alexandra were friends for many years before their relationship turned romantic, and it feels like the right time to make a commitment to each other,” the insider continued. “They’re not doing this for anybody but themselves,” adds the source. “They’re soulmates and they want to spend the rest of their lives together.”

The insider also shared details of the couple’s reported plan for their nuptials, saying they want something stress-free and intimate. “It wouldn’t be like Keanu and Alexandra to book a fancy venue and have a big party,” the source said. “They want a quiet, simple ceremony with their closest friends and family, and why not do it in their own backyard? It’s the perfect place.”

One of the reasons the source says the couple’s relationship work is because Alexandra is out of the spotlight – and wants to keep it that way. The insider claimed that while she can handle Keanu’s level of fame (including his passionate fan base), she agrees with him about keeping their personal life out of the public eye as much as possible.

“It’s a plus for him that Alexandra isn’t famous and has no desire to be famous,” they went on. “Fame doesn’t impress either of them.”

Keanu has never been married. He went through a personal tragedy in 1999 when his then-girlfriend gave birth to a stillborn baby girl at eight months. Even more tragic, his girlfriend passed away in a car accident a year later.

But it sounds like Keanu has met his perfect match in his reported fiancé (the couple haven’t publicly commented on the engagement speculation, though they’re not uncharacteristic of their private nature). A source told Closer that Grant gets on with Keanu’s family well, especially his mother, Patricia.

“What Patricia loves most about Alexandra is her caring nature and the fact that she’s with Keanu for who he is rather than his fame and money,” they said. “She’s seen a huge change in Keanu since they started dating — he’s more positive about life.”

In 2022, there were rumblings that Keanu was going to propose to Alexandra, with a source claiming to Life & Style at the time, “Keanu isn’t hiding the fact that he’s going to propose to Alexandra. His friends know how happy he’s been, he’s talked about making Alexandra his wife and he was recently spotted ring shopping in West Hollywood.” Ultimately, however, it seems like she was the one who popped the question.

The couple apparently knew each other for years before their relationship turned romantic, having developed a professional connection in 2009 at a dinner. They’ve been linked since 2011 but didn’t go public with their relationship until 2019.
