50 Cent “In Talks” to Appear at Republican National Convention: Report
Throwing his support behind Donald Trump once again
50 Cent jumped off the Donald Trump bandwagon before the 2020 presidential election, but the rapper appears to be back on board after the assassination attempt against the GOP nominee this past weekend. According to multiple CNN reports, the artist is “in talks” to appear at the ongoing Republican National Convention.
In an initial report, CNN This Morning Weekend co-anchor Victor Blackwell wrote, “50 Cent is currently scheduled to perform at the GOP convention this week, according to a person familiar. The person cautioned plans could still change, but as of Monday morning, 50 was scheduled to perform at the convention.”
Kate Sullivan, who covers the Trump beat for CNN, followed up this afternoon and clarified: “50 Cent is in talks with convention officials to appear in Milwaukee during the GOP convention, according to a person familiar.”
Stayed tuned for a more concrete update, but 50 Cent’s appearance would be a logical next step after he posted a meme of the artwork for his 2003 album, Get Rich or Die Tryin, with Trump’s head Photoshopped on his body.
At a concert in Boston not too long after Trump got shot, 50 also displayed the meme while performing his classic song, “Many Men” — a defiant anthem addressing his near-death experience of getting shot nine times in 2000.
The convention kicked off earlier today and formally nominated Trump as the GOP presidential candidate. He has already made his vice presidential pick by selecting Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio.
Prior to the 2020 election, 50 Cent briefly endorsed Trump after learning of Biden’s plans to raise taxes on people making more than $400,000 a year. One week later, he backed off after ex-girlfriend Chelsea Handler admonished him.
Landing 50 would be quite a coup for Trump, who has been courting rappers in an effort to appeal to Black voters throughout his campaign with the help of Fyre Fest founder (and fellow convicted felon) Billy McFarland.
