In January 2024, when the Jonas Brothers came to India to perform at the music festival Lollapalooza in Mumbai, Nick Jonas was welcomed on stage amid loud cheers from the crowd, who yelled ‘jiju jiju’ as they addressed the singer. While it’s common knowledge in India that Nick became the ‘national jiju’ after he tied the knot with Priyanka Chopra, the singer explained the same to Jimmy Fallon and the American audience during his recent appearance on The Tonight Show.

During his interaction with Jimmy, Nick explained the ‘jiju’ tag and said, “As you know I am married to Priyanka. When we got married this hashtag started. I was ‘National Jiju.’ Jiju means elder sister’s husband, so effectively I’m the older brother to India.” The show host also played a clip from the Jonas Brothers concert in Mumbai, in which Joe Jonas and Kevin Jonas introduced him as “Jiju” and the crowd started chanting ‘jiju jiju’ as they welcomed him on stage.

In a recent interaction, Priyanka’s mother, Madhu Chopra, talked about Nick appreciating Indian culture and rituals. She said, “He is very respectful, appreciates Indian culture, and lets us be as Indian as possible. Priyanka often says that he is a Punjabi.” She also mentioned that while Nick was prepared for being called ‘Nick jiju’ by the actor’s family, he didn’t expect to become ‘National jiju’. “All of them know about him being called Nick jiju; his family is aware of this too. Priyanka had told him. However, he wasn’t expecting National jiju,” she said.

Priyanka and Nick tied the knot at the majestic Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, in 2018. They welcomed their daughter, Malti Marie, on January 15, 2022, via surrogacy. On the professional front, Priyanka is currently shooting for her upcoming Hollywood flick The Bluff in Australia
