Barcelona set to adopt unique transfer strategy previously used to sign superstar as they aim to seal Nico Williams deal: Reports
Barcelona are reportedly set to adopt a unique strategy to sign Nico Williams which they implemented while roping in Robert Lewandowski in 2022. As reported by Mundo Deportivo via Barca Universal, the Catalan giants are assessing the options to sign the Athletic Bilbao youngster who has impressed in Euro 2024.
The report claims that the Spain international is likely to cost the Blaugrana around €60 million. To secure the deal, Barca are looking to return to the 1:1 formula just like they did while signing Lewandowski from Bayern Munich in 2022.
Barcelona are reportedly looking to sign Williams on a five-year contract where the forward will be on a lower salary for the first two years. However, his wages will see a significant hike in the next three seasons.
Lewandowski also reportedly signed for Barca at a lower wage package for the first two seasons. The Poland international is set for a major pay rise heading into his third season at Camp Nou.
Barcelona are expected to accelerate their pursuit of Williams after the completion of Euro 2024. The 22-year-old has played a key role in helping La Furia Roja make it to the final, where they will take on England.
Williams enjoyed a stellar 2023-24 season for Athletic Bilbao, scoring eight goals and providing 19 assists in 37 outings across competitions. He has registered one goal and one assist in five Euro 2024 appearances.
Barcelona and Manchester United target issues come-and-get-me plea
RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo has fueled talks regarding his future amid interest from Barcelona and Manchester United. The Spaniard has enjoyed a solid Euro 2024 campaign, scoring three goals and providing two assists in five appearances.
The 26-year-old has opened up about his release clause at the Red Bull Arena and revealed that it is about to expire. While admitting his desire to win silverware, he was quoted as saying by Spanish outlet El Larguero (via Fabrizio Romano):
“Clause until July 20? Yes, if clubs want me, they know what they can do. There’s time until July 20 for the clause otherwise later it’d be tough negotiations! I’m under contract at Leipzig and I want to win titles.”
Olmo is a leading candidate to win the Player of the Tournament award following his exploits with Spain in Euro 2024. He is likely to play a big role against England in the final on Sunday, July 14.
