Patrick Mahomes wins ‘Best Male Athlete’ at 2024 ESPYs

Patrick Mahomes y los Chiefs ganan el Super Bowl.

LOS ANGELES (KCTV) – Patrick Mahomes won a pair of awards for the second straight year at the ESPYs.

The Chiefs quarterback was named Best Male Athlete for the second consecutive year, beating out golfer Scottie Scheffler, Edmontion Oilers forward Connor McDavid and baseball superstar Shohei Ohtani to win the award.

Mahomes’ second Best Male Athlete win in as many years came after the 28-year-old led the Chiefs to back-to-back Super Bowl titles this winter. Mahomes and the Chiefs won the Super Bowl despite being the No. 3 seed in the AFC and needing to win twice on the road just to reach the big game.

On Wednesday, Mahomes was named Best NFL Player by the ESPYs. That award was announced on NFL Live on ESPN. He won both awards despite a career-low in yards passing per game and a career-high in interceptions during the regular season.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was on hand in Los Angeles for the awards show and accepted the award on behalf of the three-time Super Bowl MVP.

Mahomes took to Twitter to share his thanks to voters.

“Incredible athletes across the board in this category,” he wrote. Blessed and honored to bring home this award again. Thanks to the fans and @ESPYS (praying hands). Big dawg Andy crushed too.”
