'The price you pay for saying the truth': Fans name exact moment Barca thought of selling Ilkay Gundogan

Some Barcelona fans believe the club started to think of selling Ilkay Gundogan already last year after Xavi’s team lost El Clasico.

“I didn’t come here to lose these type of games. I have to be honest, I wish this defeat would hurt us more,” the German told the media that day.

“I was in the locker room, and of course people are disappointed, but especially after losing such a big game, I wish there was more frustration and anger. This is a problem. There has to be more emotion, especially when you lose. You know that you can perform better, especially in certain situations, and you just don’t react. We need to have a huge step in that, otherwise Real Madrid or even Girona will run away from us,” he also said.

💭 GBarca_: “Ever since Gundogan said this after that El Clasico loss, the media have been talking rubbish about him. This is the price you have to pay for saying the truth at FC Barcelona.”

💭 City Chief: “Barca weren’t happy with Gundogan after he spoke out against the board and the mentality of the players after El Clasico defeat last season. 19 G/A for Barca last season. Underrated.”

💭 BarcaSpaces: “The agenda against Gundogan started after this interview. I stand with Gundogan!”

Throughout the season, Gundogan would often criticise Barca’s mentality and set Real Madrid’s personality as an example. After the pre-season El Clasico, the German apparently complained about his teammates to Arda Guler. But he was also doing his job all the time, finishing the season with 19 goal contributions and featuring in almost every game, often out of position.

Does he really deserve all this?
