authentic”: Jason Statham becomes the model for Gege Akutami, a beloved Jujutsu Kaisen character everyone is dying to see return
The ward of Shibuya in Tokyo, Japan, recently held an exhibition in honor of Jujutsu Kaisen and Gege Akutami. The mangaka themselves were present for the exhibition, and they made some very interesting revelations about the manga series and the franchise as a whole. These revelations have come as a big shock to all the Jujutsu Kaisen fans.
Most of these revelations were regarding the characters that have been a part of the series since the beginning and helped in the overall development of the franchise. One such character is the fan-favorite Toji Fushiguro, the infamous sorcerer killer. Toji was one of the most important characters in the series, and he certainly proved his worth.
While the character has bid adieu to the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, he is still loved and appreciated by fans, and Akutami’s disclosure about the real-life inspiration behind the character of Toji has only hyped fans’ love for the character. So much so that fans want to see him make a return to the finale of the series.
Gege Akutami Reveals Inspiration Behind Toji Fushiguro
During the Jujutsu Kaisen exhibition, the mangaka made the startling revelation that the sorcerer killer was based on legendary action star Jason Statham. While Statham is mostly known for his action scenes in movies like The Transporter, The Expendables, Fast and Furious, The Beekeeper, etc., it was something else that inspired Akutami.
According to the manga, Statham’s characteristic demeanor and style are the traits that helped Akutami create Toji Fushiguro.
Just like most of Statham’s roles, Toji reflects a calm and confident personality that makes him even more menacing and dangerous. He always focuses on his goal and does not care about the little stuff.
Although Toji is a little more buff than Statham, their fighting styles are quite similar. They both handle themselves very well in dangerous situations and even in the face of defeat, they do not lose their cool. There is no better actor who could have inspired the character of Toji Fushiguro.
Fans Are Taken Aback After Gege Akutami’s Disclosure
While the news about Toji being based on Statham’s movie personality makes sense, no one could have guessed it. Even though Gege Akutami has a knack for taking inspiration from all sorts of places, their creation of a character based on The Transporter actor still comes as a shock to many fans.
As soon as the revelation hit the internet, Jujutsu Kaisen fans came together to express their opinion about the character.
While some fans were genuinely startled, others praised the mangaka and even requested that they bring the character back to the series.
Jujutsu Kaisen has most probably entered its final phase, and although it may please the fans watching Toji Fushiguro’s return, it would not do justice to the narrative and the character. Therefore, there is no chance that the sorcerer killer will make a comeback to Jujutsu Kaisen.
