She is known for her natural-looking blonde tresses and classic sense of style.
But Scarlett Johansson has been totally transformed for the cover of the 40th anniversary edition of W magazine.
Just in time for Halloween, the 27-year-old Lost In Translation star rocks a dark 90s Gothic look, all while displaying her enviable curves in the process.
Scar-Jo goes goth: Scarlett Johansson has been totally transformed for the cover of the 40th anniversary edition of W magazine
Scarlett’s striking cover sees the star with two-toned black and white Cruella de Vil-style hair and a nose ring in her nose.
The actress’s bad girl look is intensified with a heavy application of wing-tipped eyeliner and lashings of red lipstick on her full pout.
With several diamond rings adorning her fingers, she pulls up her cleavage-baring Dolce & Gabanna silk lace dress, worn over a matching bodysuit.
More wholesome: The actress is known for her natural-looking blonde tresses and classic sense of style
Sitting in a dark bar, a tumbler of whiskey on the rocks sits in front of her as she stares intensely into the camera lens of famed photographer Steven Klein, who took the snap.
Scarlett also shows off her wrist tattoo in the image, one which she got earlier this year.
The ink is a tribute to the Big Apple and designed to look like a bracelet with the words ‘I Heart NY’ on a charm.
New role: Scarlett’s appearance on the cover comes as she recently finished filming her new movie Hitchcock
In her interview with the magazine, Scarlett discusses all things 90s, and gets cheeky when she explains her disdain for turtleneck sweaters, a huge trend from the era.
‘They’re horrible. I tried to get into them because they are so practical, but they’re just so unfortunate,’ she says.
‘Men don’t like turtlenecks. I’ve never met a man who likes anything around his neck other than my hands.’
That shower scene: The actress fills the role of Janet Leigh, who was famously ‘killed’ in the shower scene for her Golden Globe-winning performance as Marion Crane in the 1960 suspense/horror film
Scarlett also reveals that her favourite film from the 90s was Jurassic Park.
Cover girl: Scarlett graces the cover of the November issue of the fashion magazine
‘Jurassic Park was a mind-blowing experience,’ she says.
‘I wasn’t really afraid of dinosaurs – I was more afraid of something like a clown coming to eat your brain or Chucky, a little doll that was going to take a knife to your eyeballs. But I actually believed Jurassic Park. I remember saying, “This is going to happen, you guys.”‘
The actress also takes a moment to remember the late and great comedian, Chris Farely, who she says was her favourite person of the era.
‘I thought he was hilarious. Growing up, I used to watch Saturday Night Live just to see him,’ she says.
‘He threw his whole body into the parts he played. He’d become red and sweaty and frantic. When he died, it was really significant for me.’
This November marks the 40th anniversary of W, and the culmination of a year long celebration of the brand’s rich history and 40-year legacy in storytelling through fashion photography.
Joining Scarlett in alternative covers of the publication is fellow actresses Keira Knightley, Mia Wasikowska and Rooney Mara.
