Vin Diesel Teases Throwback Vehicles Featuring in Fast & Furious Finale
Fast X Part 2’s ode to Fast & Furious’ roots includes a nod to some of the cars made popular throughout the film series. Star Vin Diesel plugs some of the rides fans can expect to see while taking in the high-octane action of the franchise finale.
Via his Instagram, Diesel posted a video showing a fleet of black vehicles heading to a filming location. The familiar-looking vehicles include the Challenger, Road Runner and the Barracuda used in Furious 7. The Challenger, an ever-present car throughout the Fast & Furious franchise, has a design mirroring Dominic Torretto’s (Diesel) STR8 he used in Fast and Furious 6. Diesel showed off these cars with the short caption, “We’re on our way.”
Diesel has been doing car training at a familiar location in preparation for Fast X Part 2 filming as he readies himself to portray Dom one last time. He previously teased featuring another popular vintage vehicle from past Fast & Furious films, the original orange Toyota Supra driven by the late Paul Walker’s character, Brian O’Conner, in The Fast and the Furious.
The Next Fast & Furious Film Will Feature Throwbacks
The inclusion of previous cars used throughout the Fast & Furious film series is emblematic of Fast X Part 2’s commitment to go “back to basics” and honor the street racing legacy made famous during the franchise’s early entries. Fast X Part 2 will shy away from the big-budget approach of recent entries, including $340 million for Fast X, while cutting down on more outlandish sequences said entries have become known for including. Additionally, it’s rumored a new antagonist will feature in Fast X Part 2, though it’s unknown whether the villain will replace Jason Momoa’s acclaimed baddie, Dante Reyes, or accompany him.
Fast X Part 2 continues from Fast X’s cliffhanger ending and will reveal secrets heavily teased in the last sequel. Fast X earned a respectable $714.6 million at the global box office, but struggled for ticket sales domestically and received mixed reviews, garnering a 56% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film featured some notable character deaths and a surprise return by Dwayne Johnson’s lawman character, Luke Hobbs, with a Hobbs spinoff movie coming between Fast X and its follow-up.
Director Louis Leterrier hinted at Fast X Part 2 pre-production beginning in September. Meanwhile, star Tyrese Gibson confirmed filming is expected to begin in 2025.
Fast X Part 2 opens in theaters in 2026.
