The San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs are both vying to win Super Bowl LVIII and add another title to their franchise history. However, in addition to the trophy and rings, the bonuses that come with it are also quite lucrative.
Players on both teams, despite winning or losing, will walk away with a bonus check. According to the NFL collective bargaining agreement outlines that each player on the winning team will receive $157,000. The players on the losing team will receive a bonus of $89,000.
According to Spotrac, an online professional sports resource that tracks contracts and salaries for players, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes made a total of $59.4 million during the regular season.
Based on his contract, Mahomes could earn an additional $1.3 million in bonuses following his run in the playoffs, more than other players could earn.
Detailing Patrick Mahomes’ contract
Patrick Mahomes signed a 10-year contract worth $450 million in 2020.
According to the contract, Mahomes would earn an average of $45 million per season until 2031, and there will be no cap on his earnings. Additionally, he was guaranteed to make a minimum of $41 million per season.
In September 2023, the Kansas City Chiefs and Mahomes, agreed to a restructured contract after other high profile quarterbacks signed deals for higher annual value.
The new deal was worth $210.6 million and it was for 2023-2026. This meant that the annual average value for Mahomes’ contract was $52.65 million.
