Barcelona not giving up in the pursuit of their preferred pivot

BARCELONA, SPAIN - MAY 19: FC Barcelona football Coordinator Bojan Krkic and FC Barcelona Sports Director Deco look on from the stands during the LaLiga EA Sports match between FC Barcelona and Rayo Vallecano at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys on May 19, 2024 in Barcelona, Spain.

As the upcoming summer transfer window approaches closer every day, one of the operations that FC Barcelona are planning to execute in this window is the acquisition of a top-class midfield pivot.

The financial position of the Catalan club forces them to work within a very limited space. But the Blaugranes are hopeful that they can generate some funds in the coming few days which will make their business in the market significantly easier.

One of the players that has been linked with the club for this position is the Bayern Munich midfielder, Joshua Kimmich, and in fact, he is one of the priority targets for Barcelona.

Xavi wanted the German during his time at the Catalan club, and now Hansi Flick, who has already worked with Kimmich both at Bayern Munich and the German national team, also has him in his plans.

The Blaugranes have already made the first approach for the midfielder, which was rejected by the German as it did not meet his expectations. The Blaugranes cannot currently offer him a very high salary and also cannot invest all their income in new acquisitions.

Despite this first setback, Hansi Flick is committed to doing everything in his power to convince the midfielder to join Barcelona, as he has only rejected the first offer, and has in no way refused to negotiate further with the club.

In such circumstances, SPORT reports that Joan Laporta believes that the rejection of the first offer made for Kimmich is quite normal, and Barcelona understand they will have to improve their offer to get the German midfielder.

However, the Catalans are also clear that Kimmich will have to play his part if he really wants to don the blue and garnet shirt.

For now, all the involved parties are doing their part without too much rush. The 29-year-old Bayern Munich midfielder is focused on the upcoming UEFA EURO 2024, which is going to be held in his home country, while FC Barcelona are working on getting back to a 1:1 rule.

As for Bayern Munich, Barcelona will have to negotiate with them for the midfielder. However, as Kimmich’s contract is expiring next year, and he has already rejected a renewal offer, the Bavarians might be more willing to negotiate rather than risk losing him for free in 2025.
