Fermin Lopez reveals how he nearly ended up in Segunda last summer – Xavi rescued him
Speaking in a recent interview with Radio Catalunya, Fermin Lopez reflected on the rapid shift in his career over the past year.
Just last June, the midfielder played for the third-division Linares side. Now, he is Barcelona’s first-team player.
The youngster capped off his debut campaign as one of the Catalans’ top scorers, with an impressive tally of 11 goals in 43 games, and is now heading to the Euros.
But all of this might not have happened, as Fermin himself admitted.
“The truth is that last year, I wanted to leave Barca for a second division club. It was a good step for my career at the time, but the club convinced me to stay for pre-season for a week.
“Xavi trusted me and everything went smoothly after that.”
