In an interview with Die Zeit, Barcelona midfielder Ilkay Gundogan revealed who were his childhood idols:
“As a child I was a fan of the German national team, but my idols were Hamit and Halil Altıntop . They played for Schalke, and I was not a Schalke fan. But, like me, they were born and raised in Gelsenkirchen, and had Turkish parents. That’s why I deified them more than others.”
What is even more interesting, is that Hamit Altintop actually used to play for Real Madrid – he played 12 games for them in 2011-12.
