Reeves, a noted hockey fan and former goalkeeper, has signed for the Windsor Spitfires

Keanu Reeves is adding ‘professional hockey player’ to his already-extensive resume. The actor and Dogstar bassist has signed a one-day contract with the Ontario Hockey League team the Windsor Spitfires.

While his on-ice aspirations may be big, the stunt is mainly for charity — a copy of his one-day contract, plus a special Keanu Reeves jersey, will be auctioned off, with all proceeds going to the Canadian Mental Health Association of Windsor-Essex.

Reeves, who grew up predominately in Toronto, was actually a hockey player in his adolescence. He played goalkeeper for an ice hockey team while in high school, and apparently had dreams of playing for the Canadian National Team. He decided to pivot to acting instead, but funnily enough, his first ever feature film role was in Youngblood, a hockey sports drama starring Rob Lowe. Now, he’s giving his old ambitions a try for one day.

“It’s a big day for our organization,” Spitfires General Manager Bill Bowler said in a statement. “We are so proud to finally have Keanu on our squad. If he’s half the goalie he was in Youngblood we should do well this season. We are big supporters of the CMHA and hope the auction for this extremely rare jersey will help such an important cause in our community.”
