Lewandowski says he’s just as good as two years ago – is it really so?
Despite turning 36 this month, Robert Lewandowski is confident that age hasn’t taken its toll on him. In a recent interview with ESPN, the Barcelona striker declared:
“Physically, I don’t see the difference between now and how I was two years ago. I can still score a lot of goals.”
Is that really the case? Let’s see.
In his first season with the Catalans, Lewandowski netted 33 goals and provided 8 assists, securing the Pichichi award as La Liga’s top scorer.
His second season at Camp Nou – or rather Montjuic – saw somewhat smaller numbers.
Yet, Lewy ended up as the club’s top scorer again, with 26 goals and 9 assists to his name. He also finished third among Spain’s most prolific players, on par with Jude Bellingham – all while sporting a flawless six-pack.
So, in all fairness, while he did experience a slight dip in form, Robert still has a point. Just like two years ago, he is one of the team’s key players and is likely to remain so under Hansi Flick.
