Could a move really happen?

Bruno Fernandes has been unexpectedly linked with FC Barcelona by the latest transfer gossip.

Some sections of the Portuguese press say the Manchester United star could be looking for a new club and that Barcelona would be among the many European clubs interested in his signature.

Speaking to CaughtOffside, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano had this to say about the situation: “The reality is that Fernandes’ agent Miguel Pinho has met with some European top clubs last week. Contacts took place, but the player remains focused on Man United and his exit is not something decided at this point. It will also depend on Man United’s new project, what happens with the manager, what they will ‘present’ to Bruno in new meeting.”

United won the FA Cup last season but struggled in the league and are once again not present in the UEFA Champions League next season.

Fernandes’s contract expires in 2026, and United will probably not part with him easily. That points to it being unlikely that Barcelona will go for him in the transfer market, given their economic situation.

There are some who would suggest that Fernandes and his agent are testing the waters as United decides whether to continue with Erik ten Hag at the helm. Still, this could be the beginning of a transfer saga to watch.
